Citizen Jane: Battle for the City

Directed by: Matt Tyrnauer, USA, 2016, 92 mins

A documentary feature on Jane Jacobs and New York’s ‘Master Builder’, Robert Moses and their epic battles for the right to the city in the 20th century, in which bureaucratic, “top down” concepts to building cities dramatically clashed with grassroots “bottom up” approaches. The film explores how those struggles inform, define and frame the fights we are having over cities in the era of mass urbanization and the global megacity.

"A finely woven tapestry that feels as relevant and alive as the place you live." - Variety

"Enthralling" ★★★★ - The Financial Times

"As the world’s urban population grows by more than one million every week, so does the resonance of this documentary" ★★★★ - The Times
